Where Nanchang goes to see the cherry blossoms
For a few weeks each spring, half of Nanchang seems to drive out to Fenghuanggou (凤凰沟). The draw is sakura: thousands of cherry trees that bloom across this hillside farm park from late February, turning the slopes pink and white and pulling crowds with cameras and picnic mats. It's the city's favourite flower outing — and, the rest of the year, a quiet sweep of tea terraces and countryside about an hour from town.
What it is
Fenghuanggou is a large eco-agriculture park — a provincial "modern farming" showcase — about 35 kilometres south of central Nanchang, out in the county countryside. Beyond the famous cherry blossoms, it's planted with more than two thousand mu of tea (there's a "sea of tea" and a tea-hedge maze), plus mulberry and silk exhibits and farm museums. In spring it's all about the flowers; the rest of the year it's a green, low-key day in the country.
When the blossoms peak
Cherry-blossom season runs roughly late February to early April: pink blooms from late February into mid-March, white early-cherry around mid-March, and late sakura into early April. The exact timing shifts with the weather each year, so check before you make the trip — and go on a weekday if you can, because spring weekends here are very busy.

It's a proper day-trip, about 35 km out:
- Metro + bus (cheapest): Metro Line 3 to Zhenxing Avenue (振兴大道) station, then bus 128 or C64 to the park gate.
- Taxi / DiDi (easiest): roughly 45 minutes from the centre; arrange a return or book a ride back, as cabs can be scarce at the gate.
- By car: about 45 minutes via the expressway (Huangma exit).
